PURPOSE:A fomentation, obtained by blending a hydroxyalkylated polyhydric alcohol in place of the polyhydric alcohol, capable of sustaining water holding property for a long period and having plaster performance of high safety hardly solidifying with time. CONSTITUTION:A fomentation obtained by containing a >=6C hydroxyalkylated polyhydric alcohol, preferably saccharide or reduced substance thereof, particularly sorbitol or sucrose. The above-mentioned compound is prepared by introducing an alkylene oxide into a molten polyhydric alcohol or solution or dispersion thereof in the presence of a catalyst of an acid or base and the ratio of the hydroxyl groups in the product is preferably >=10%, particularly >=20%.
