PURPOSE:To prevent the contact of a hollow yarn membrane and air and to increase the effective area of the membrane by providing a vent device having an aperture in the lower face of a tube plate and bringing it into contact with the tube plate of the upper part in a lower chamber so that a space is not formed between the vent and the tube plate and immersing the whole hollow yarn membrane module into liquid. CONSTITUTION:In a hollow yarn membrane filter, a vent device consisting of a vent pipe 36 which communicates an aperture 35 perforated in a tube plate 25 to the outside of a vessel main body 21 from the side wall part of an upper drum part 23 is provided to the inside of an upper chamber 26. In the case of backwash treatment, pressurized gas is fed through a pipeline 28 for discharging treated liquid and the treated liquid 38 is backflowed and bubbles 39 are jetted through bubbles jetting holes 33 of a pipeline 34 for jetting bubbles and fine particles stuck to the outside of hollow yarn membrane modules 31 are peeled off. The backwashed treated liquid 38 and bubbles 39 are discharged together with raw liquid 37 to the outside of the vessel main body 21 via the vent pipe 36 from the aperture 35.
