PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as a high-boiling oil or an intermediate for synthesizing adamantanes in high yield and selectively, by hydrogenating acenaphthene in the presence of a ruthenium type and/or rhodium type catalyst at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:In obtaining the titled substance by hydrogenating acenaphthene, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a ruthenium type and/or a rhodium type catalyst at 80-200 deg.C for 20min-4hr. A catalyst having carbon as a carrier is preferable and the amount of the catalyst used is preferably 0.5-2wt% based on acenaphthene. EFFECT:By using the above-mentioned method, perhydroacenaphthene is obtained in high yield and cis-form having the maximum boiling point can be selectively obtained.
