PRODUCTION OF CORRESPONDING 13-(S)-DIHYDRO-13-ORTHO-BETA-D-GLUCOPYRANOSIDE BY MICROBIOLOGICAL CONVERSION OF ANTHRACYCLINONES

Anthracyciine glucosides of the formula: wherein R is hydrogen or a methoxy group are prepared by biotransformation of 4-demethoxydaunomycinone or daunomycinone in the presence of a micro-organism, designed as strain M-99-FCE, obtained by mutation of Streptomices peucetius, subsp. vinaceus using nitrosaguanidine, and have good antibiotic and antitiumour activity. Compounds of the formula: are obtained as intermediates.
