PURPOSE:To obtain a photographic emulsion causing little fog during rapid processing at high temp. and ensuring high sensitivity and contrast by chemically aging a photographic emulsion contg. a specified dye adsorbed on the surfaces of silver halide particles contg. a prescribed amount of silver chloride and by adding a prescribed amount of a diffusion resistant hardening agent to the aged emulsion. CONSTITUTION:A photographic emulsion contg. a merocyanine dye adsorbed on the surfaces of silver halide particles contg. at least 50% silver chloride is chemically aged and a diffusion resistant hardening agent is added to the aged emulsion by 0.0001-0.002mol per 1mol silver halide. The merocyanine dye used is represented by the formula, wherein Z is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form an oxazole, benzoxazole or naphthoxazole ring, R<1> is alkyl, R<2> is a prescribed group such as alkoxycarbonylalkyl and each of R<3> and R4u4 is H, Cl, F, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylsulfonyl, sulfo or carboxy. |
