PURPOSE:To produce the title silica glass in high yield from a monolithic dry gel without cracks and crazes by gelating a silica sol, drying the gel in a vessel with a lid using a gas-permeable film, and then sintering the dry gel. CONSTITUTION:A silica sol obtained by hydolyzing a silicon alkoxide, etc., is gelated, and then the gel is charged in a vessel and dried. A gas-permeable film of a PVC resin, a PE resin, etc., is used for the lid of the vessel. Consequently, the evaporation rate of water and a solvent such as alcohols can be appropriately controlled, and a large-sized dry gel without generation of cracks, crazes, etc., can be obtained in good yield. The dry gel is sintered in an appropriate atmosphere to obtain the silica glass. |
