The invention relates to a mineral wool body designed for use as a sound-insulating body which is capable of damping or absorbing sound at both high frequencies and low frequencies, and in which at least the majority of that surface of the mineral wool body which is exposed to said sound at high frequencies and low frequencies is covered by a binder in such a quantity and by means of such an application method that to all intents and purposes all the surface fibres in the mineral wool body are mutually connected, at the same time as the binder does not produce an integrated uninterrupted film of binder. The binder is preferably a solution of non- combustible alkaline silicate, in particular water glass, and is applied to the mineral wool body in a quantity of 75-150 or preferably 95-140 g dry material content/m2 of mineral wool, after which the solvent is evaporated or dried, preferably at a temperature of less than 120 degree C. The binder can be prepolymerized, so that the viscosity at 20 degree C and a dry material content of 50% is more than 300 mPa.s, and the binder is supplied in a concentration of lower than 40% or preferably less than 38% dry material content. <IMAGE>
