<p>PURPOSE:To prevent a ballast for a discharge lamp from being burnt by exposing charging terminals of the ballast and coating the terminals with high temperature deterioration adhesive between the terminals so as to connect the terminals. CONSTITUTION:Charging terminals 2, 2' exposed externally of a ballast 1 for a discharge lamp are so coated with high temperature deterioration adhesive 3 as to connect the terminals. When the temperature of a winding 4 rises due to certain cause, the temperatures of the terminals 2, 2' thereby rises. When this state continues, chloroprene of the adhesive 3 coated to connect the terminals 2, 2' is thermally decomposed to generate chlorine. Since the chlorine reacts with magnesium oxide contained in the adhesive at ambient temperature to obtain deliquescence, the terminals 2 and 2' are conducted due to water absorption. Since the state that the ballast 1 is not inserted occurs even if a power source 5 is applied thereto, a large current flows to the circuit to damage the electrodes 6 of the lamp, but the ballast 1 is not burnt thereby eliminating the fear of causing a fire.</p> |
