PURPOSE:To perform stable washing treatment for a long period of time, by preventing the sticking and solidification of excessive paint by adding a specific treatment agent to washing water supplied to a painting booth and separating a solid from used washing water to recirculate said washing water. CONSTITUTION:A melamine/aldehyde acid colloidal solution is added to washing water supplied to a painting booth. Said solution is prepared by reacting melamine and aldehyde to obtain methylol melamine and further adding an acid to methylol melamine. By this method, the stickiness of excessive paint collected in washing water is reduced and the sticking and solidification of the paint to the interior of the system is prevented. Used washing water is again recirculated as it is or after solid-liquid separation is performed using a proper flocculant to make it possible to prevent the lowering in the clarity of recirculated washing water due to the suspended substance in water.
