For use by males, the toilet-seat lifting means can cause the toilet seat to be raised in a hygienic manner and to be lowered again afterwards, with the result that it is not soiled when passing water. For females, it has the advantage that raised WC seats left by male users do not have to be lowered again unhygienically by hand. A large number of wires, cords and other auxiliary means for holding WC seats up are also dispensed with. The toilet-seat lifting means is thus a very hygienic device for any domestic WC which is used by both sexes and for locations where, due to a lack of space, a urinal cannot be installed.
