A hydraulically operable nut (4) or bolt head for tensioning bolts (1) or studs in an assembly (2) to be clamped, and suitable for high temperature use, in which an annular piston (6) is located in an annular recess (5) in the underside of the nut (4) or bolt head, and a metal capsule (8) is located between the piston (6) and the bottom of the recess (5) to serve as a sealing means. In use hydraulic fluid is admitted to the inside of the capsule (8), or into the space between the capsule (8) and the bottom of the recess (5) in order to move the piston (6) away from the bottom of the recess (5) and the nut (4) or bolt head away from an assembly (2) to be clamped, in order to tension the bolt (1) or stud. |
