The invention relates to an internal combustion engine supercharged by means of an exhaust turbocharger, which engine has a charge air line, in which a charge air cooler is arranged. So that relatively high charge air temperatures are produced over the entire load and speed range during the warm-up phase of the internal combustion engine, without the possibility of problems occurring due to excessively high charge air temperatures when the internal combustion engine has reached operating temperature, a bypass line bypassing the charge air cooler is branched off from the charge air line, the entire charge air flow being led by way of the said bypass line until a predetermined internal combustion engine temperature is reached.
