The aim of the invention is, with relatively low machine outlay and adequate cut quality, to prepare the profile sections such that they are grouped for automated removal. For this purpose, the profile section, cut to length by means of a cutting frame which is angularly adjustable as a function of the profile travel rate and the cut direction, is brought to a stop position, the latter being determined by a measurement sensor. When the further profile section, which has been cut to length in the interim, reaches this measurement sensor, the profile sections are conveyed jointly by one profile-section length. This process is repeated up to a predeterminable number of profile sections. Then the profile sections are jointly brought to a removal point, where a further measurement sensor triggers the automated removal. <IMAGE>
