A device with at least one tool (8) for machining workpieces (2) is described. The tool is releasably clamped in a rotatable spindle (3) movable relative to the workpiece to be machined. To carry out auxiliary operations connected with the machining of the workpiece, a manipulator is fastened to the spindle. The manipulator has a piston (13) displaceable relative to the spindle and relative to the workpiece to be machined. The manipulator can be used, for example, for the tool change. It conveys the tools between a magazine and a change station having two tool carriers (23), while the spindle receives the tools from the change station and deposits them in the change station again. <IMAGE>
