A resistor (RM), which is dependent on a magnetic field, is physically arranged in the air gap (G) of the storage inductor (L) and electrically in a control device (RM, R4, K3, UREF) of a switched-mode power supply for automatic limiting of the inductance current (IL) of the switched-mode power supply, especially of a forward converter or push-pull converter, in the event of an overload or short-circuit. The value of the resistance of the resistor (RM) which is dependent on a magnetic field grows as the inductance current (IL) increases and switches off the current-switching semiconductor switch or switches (S; S1, S2) on reaching a limit value which can be predetermined. <IMAGE>
