PURPOSE:To inexpensively produce a small-sized device and to flexibly cope with inevitable the schedule modification at the time of dispatch by consisting a message only of synthesized sounds. CONSTITUTION:A sound synthesizing circuit 16 rearranges sound element data from a ROM 22 accumulating previously required sound element data, produces a response message to a caller, sets and modifies the response message. An incoming call detection circuit 7 and a dial tone detection circuit 23 detect the incoming of a telephone line and a dial tone signal, and generates an action start signal to a control circuit 1. It controls the sound synthesizing circuit 16 and the ROM 22 with the aid of signals from the incoming call detection circuit 7 and the dial tone detection circuit 23 so that the response message is composed, set or modified. Thus the constitution in simplified, and moreover the response message can be set and modified through remote control from outings.
