The invention relates to an attachment arranged on a machine tool, in particular a lathe, on the cross slide of a longitudinal slide for the circular-arc-shaped guidance of a cutting tool around the workpiece, fastened in the spindle chuck of the headstock of the machine tool, for producing a hemispherical or other partly spherical surface on the workpiece. The object of the invention is to design such an attachment to be as simple as possible in its construction and to keep its purchase price sufficiently low that a skilled tradesman with a small business is also able to purchase it. To this end, provision is made according to the invention for a mounting device (11) carrying the cutting tool (2) to be arranged on an attachment housing (10) fastened to the cross slide (7) displaceable transversely to the rotational axis (15) of the workpiece. The mounting device (11) is pivotable about a vertical shaft (12) lying inside the attachment housing (10), the longitudinal axis (13) of the shaft (12) on the one hand intersecting with the horizontal longitudinal axis (14) of the cutting face of the cutting tool (2) and on the other hand intersecting with the horizontal longitudinal axis (15), offset by 90 DEG relative to the latter, of the workpiece (5) at one point (16). <IMAGE>
