PURPOSE:To make each positioning for sheetlike articles different in width each into automation, by controlling a driver for a support block or a movable carriage so as to cause a pair of detectors installed in front of a front end of the new sheetlike article to come into a state of detecting a side end of the existing sheetlike article. CONSTITUTION:This device consists of a support block 8, a movable carriage 2, both detectors 15A and 15B, a driver and a controller. The support block 8 clamps the rear end side of the existing sheetlike article A, while the movable carriage 2 clamps the front end side of a new sheetlike article B, making this move to the rear end side of the existing sheetlike article B. Paired detectors 15A and 15B are symmetrically installed in the movable carriage 2, and situated in front of a front end of the new sheetlike article B, detecting a side end of the existing sheetlike article A. The driver moves either of the support block 8 or the movable carriage 2 in both directions. The controller receives each signal out of both these detectors 15A and 15B, and operates the driver so as to cause these detectors 15A and 15B to come into a state of detecting the side end of the existing sheetlike article A.
