PURPOSE:To ensure the space for legs at the rear seat, by forming a bulge section directed upward and adapted to be fitted in the lower section of a center pillar, in a center pillar attaching section so that the dimensions of a brace for reinforcing the center pillar are reduced. CONSTITUTION:A center pillar 4 constitutes a closed structure together with a pillar outer panel 6 and a pillar inner panel 7. An upward projecting bulge section 17 is formed in the upper section of a sidesill 14 for attaching the center pillar 4, and is adapted to be completely fitted into an opening formed in the lower section of the center pillar 4 so that it makes into contact with the rear surface of the center pillar 4. Accordingly, the pillar 4 is welded for securing to this bulge section 17 in addition to a general section 19. Thereby, the dimensions of a brace projecting into the passenger's compartment may be reduced.
