PURPOSE:To efficiently sediment and concentrate the suspended component in raw water, by providing a water stream deflecting means for setting introduced raw water to a horizontal direction at the central part of a spiral water channel. CONSTITUTION:Turbid raw water flows in a tank from the introducing pipe 8 set to the central part of a spiral partition plate 5 to fill a clarifying chamber 1a but, at this time, the inflow energy of raw water is turned to a horizontal direction by a water stream deflecting means due to a spiral bottom plate 9a to push out the whole of raw water in a spiral water channel in a stable state. In a process allowing raw water to flow through the spiral water channel partitioned by a long flow passage, the suspended substance in raw water falls linearily to an oblique direction to be sedimented and concentrated in a concn. chamber 1b and is taken out to the outside from the discharge port 2 of the bottom part by valve operation. The clarified water in raw water from which the suspended substance was removed rises in the clarifying chamber 1a by rearward push-out force and floods over the zigzag weir 3 formed to the outer periphery of the clarifying chamber 1a to be gathered to a water gathering tub 4 and is taken out from a lead-out port 10.
