PURPOSE:To efficiently adsorb a metal ion, by supporting potassium permanganese by an open cell porous body prepared by mixing potassium chloride with a mixture of coal fly ash and ammonium chloride along with cement and drying the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and potassium chloride is mixed with coal fly ash and the resulting mixture is dried. Not only cement but also an aqueous solution of potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, sodium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium sulfate, citric acid and cobalt chloride are mixed with said dried mixture. Subsequently, the obtained mixture is dried to form an open cell porous body and an aqueous solution of potassium permanganese is added to the surface of the open cell porous body and dried to be supported thereby to form an adsorbent of a metal ion and an offensive smell. This adsorbent is constituted of the open cell porous body having micropores and macropores and has a large specific surface area and enhanced metal ion adsorbing capacity.
