PURPOSE:To reduce the polarization of a cell during discharge, by applying n type ZrX2 (where X is Se or Te) as a main material of the positive electrode. CONSTITUTION:In a photoelectric secondary cell with a negative electrode mainly of metallic copper and a Cu<+> ion conductive solid electrolyte, a material mainly of n type ZrX2 (where X is Se or Te), that is, n type ZrSe2 or ZrTe2, is applied as a positive electrode material. In this case, the activating energy of electric charge transfer over the contact surfaces between the electrolyte and the positive electrode material makes a major cause of the cell polarization. When the activating energy is low the delivery of electrons is rapid and the polarization of a cell is small. The activating energy of the ZrSe2 or ZrTe2 is much smaller than that of ZrSe2, and the polarization can be made smaller. |
