<p>PURPOSE:To prevent an adverse effect on a steering system due to the abnormal operation of an electric drive mechanism by providing a means for preventing the application of relative power from said mechanism to a running condition setting mechanism. CONSTITUTION:When a rod 7 has been twisted and a wheel 32 has moved vertically, corresponding to steering torque caused on a steering wheel, an elastic plate 38 bends due to the coupling of a groove to a ball 39. Consequently, a strain gauge 40 generates an electric signal showing the deivation of the wheel 32 or steering torque and an electric motor 8a is actuated on the basis of the electric signal. And when the electric motor 8a has been actuated, an output shaft 21 rotates via a clutch 8b and a train of gears 27-26 and 25-23, thereby driving a rack 11.</p> |
