PURPOSE:To enable a soot blower to be operated simply and efficiently by a method wherein a value of constituent specific to fuel amount set in advance is added to variations in a fuel consumption amount and an oxygen concentration at an outlet of a fuel economizer as a calculation factor, a dust in discharged gas is calculated to detect indirectly an adhered condition of dust and then a soot blower is operated in response to a result of this sensing operation. CONSTITUTION:A data processing device 2 has a function for reading measured values obtained through a coal consumption amount sensor 9, a fuel economizer outlet oxygen concentration sensor 16 and GRF power sensor 17 as an analogue signal, converting a digital amount to an engineering value through an analogue input device 4 for converting the analogue signal to a digital amount, thereafter storing the value at a desired address of a memory device 5 and another function for reading various values of constituents of coal set in a fuel constituent setting unit 7 and storing them at the desired address of a memory device 14 and then calculates burning dust with these data being applied as calculation factor. When the calculated value is increased over a desired value, the central processing device 3 instructs the digital outputting device 8 to issue a digital output in order to operate the soot blower.
