PURPOSE:To measure a specific gravity without requiring the buoyancy correction for every sample by supplying water into a water tank through a valve which is opened and closed in accordance with the signal outputted from a detecting means and the signal of a sequence controller. CONSTITUTION:A balance 1 measures the weight of a sample 3 in air and inputs it to a calculator 18. A liquid tank base 7 is raised by the command of a sequence controller 19. The contact of a microswitch 14 is brought into contact with an overcoat-shaped member 11, and the microswitch 14 is closed. When the liquid tank base reaches a proper height, a valve 17 is opened to supply water into an inside tank 4 of a double-wall water tank. After supplying water, the valve 17 is closed, and the calculator 18 takes in the weight of the sample 3 in water in accordance with the command of the sequence controller 19 and subtracts the buoyancy, which acts upon the underwater part of a sample suspender 2, from this weight and calculates the specific gravity of the sample on a basis of the weight value of the sample in air. |
