PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for diagnosing a network type data base, by providing a pointer extracting means, pointer classifying means, and pointer disconnection discriminating means and finding the disconnected point of a pointer by reading the data base one time only. CONSTITUTION:A pointer extracting means which implements two records of an actual pointer information record and false pointer information record, pointer classifying means which classifies the pointer information records, and pointer disconnection discriminating means 3 which discriminates the presence/ absence of a disconnected point in the data base records, are provided. This system does not verify the correctness of a set chain by successively tracing records at every occurrence of set, but finds the disconnected point of a pointer by extracting the address of the next record from the pointer representing the chain stored in each record, storing the address in a secondary medium, and performing classifying operations on the information, by reading a data base 4 one time only. Therefore, the time required for diagnosing the data base 4 can be made shorter.
