PURPOSE:To obtain a foil wound transformer having improved insulating characteristics, by using two sheets of insulation paper having different thicknesses for providing insulation between turns of a metallic sheet and using three sheets of insulation paper having the same thickness for providing insulation at the end of the rolled metallic sheet, such that the total thickness of insulation paper sheets disposed between the turns is equal to the thickness of the insulation paper sheets at the end of the sheet. CONSTITUTION:A metallic sheet 13 is rolled together with two sheets of insulation paper 14 and 15 having different thicknesses, and the end of the metallic sheet is covered with an insulation paper sheet 16. Insulation between the metallic sheet layers 13 is provided by the two sheets of insulation paper whose ratio of thickness is 2 : 1, while insulation at the end of the rolled sheet 13 is provided by three sheets of insulation paper 15 and 16 having the same thickness. Though only one sheet 16 covers the end of the rolled sheet 13, two sheets are counted because it also corvers the top and rear faces of the sheet 3. The thicker insulation paper 14 is shorter than the metallic sheet 13, while the thinner insulation paper 15 is sandwiched by the insula tion paper sheet 16 at the end thereof and projects out of the rolled body. Insulation at the end of the sheet 13 can be secured more positively since it is covered with the insulation paper 16.
