NEW MATERIAL:Compounds shown by formula I [Mt is transition metal; R is (substituted)alkyl; X is n-valent anion] and shown by formula II. EXAMPLE:N,N'-Disalicylidene-2-cetyl-1,3-propanediaminate nickel (II) acetate. USE:A high-functional material such as energy conversion material, electrochemical catalyst, oxygen transporting carrier, etc. PREPARATION:A solution of a 2-alkyl-1,3-propanediamine hydrochloride and a base such as sodium acetate, etc., in an organic solvent (e.g. n-propanol, etc.) is reacted with salicylaldehyde at about 50 deg.C for about 12hr to give a ligand. The ligand and a metallic salt (e.g. nickel acetate tetrahydrate, etc.) are dissolved in the organic solvent (e.g. n-propanol, etc.) in a nonoxidizing atmosphere (e.g. N2, etc.) and reacted at room temperature for 1-2hr. The reaction product is filtered off and recrystallized from acetone or n-hexane to give a compound shown by formula I.
