PURPOSE:To reduce the torque required for rotating a roll shaft and lessen the damage to a guided member, by constituting the captioned device in such a manner that static pressure bearings, which support both ends of a roll shaft, respectively, are provided with a radial, static-pressure bearing and a thrust, static-pressure bearing, which is formed into an integrated body with the said radial bearing, and that both ends of the roll shaft are supported by the said static-pressure bearing without contact between the two. CONSTITUTION:When the fluid is supplied to a supply port 35 on 'one side', the fluid gushes out from an orifice port 29 on 'one side' and gushes into a gap of a radial, static-pressure bearing 21, while the fluid gushes out from orifice ports 31 and 33 for thrust, static-pressure beaings 25 and 27 and gushes into the gap of the thrust bearing. Thus, one end of a roll shaft 1 on 'one side' is supported by a static-pressure bearing 19 on 'one side' without contact. Similarly, when the fluid is supplied to a supply port on the 'other side', the ends on the 'other side' of the roll 1 are supported by a static-pressure bearing 37 on the 'other side' without contact. As a result, the torque required for rotating the roll 1 can be reduced. Accordingly, the friction between the roll shaft 1 and a guided member, wich drives the roll shaft 1, is lessened, thereby reducing the damage to the guided member.
