Means for clamping the cross-beam 3 of a double-column planing-machine, plano milling machine, vertical lathe, &c., to the columns 1 comprises a rib 2 on the guide or slide, a groove in the other part to receive the rib, and a wedgebar 4 between the side of the groove and the rib to clamp the rib in the groove. As illustrated, a pair of bars 4 engage, princer-fashion, the opposite sides of a rib 2 on each of the columns 1. The bars are connected by floating levers 8, 13, 15 and links 7, 10, 14 to an operating unit, e.g. an hydraulic actuator 18, 19, and stops 40 are provided for the levers 8. The actuator is also coupled by a floating lever 22 and links 21, 25, 26 to levers 31 pivoted on the beam and connected to clamping bars 28. A spring 32 under pressure, or hydraulic means, act on the linkage to ensure that the beam is drawn against the front guides on the columns by the bars 28 before clamping pressure is exerted by the bars 4. In Fig. 2, the bars are provided with racks 34 in mesh with a pinion 36 to which the clamping pressure is applied by a rod 10. The bars 4 may extend over the whole height of the cross-beam. |
