PURPOSE:To emphasize only a main image with the sensation of running by forming plural images except the main image as running images and composing one image of the images. CONSTITUTION:A document to be printed as a running image is placed on the original platen of a reader 1 and a running image button 304 is depressed. Then, a motor 306 is driven with a control signal from a CPU which detects the depression of the button, a semicylindrically-sectioned rod lens 8 which converges light only in one direction is moved and put between a rod lens array 5 and a CCD line sensor 6, and then the document on the reader 1 begins to be read. In this read state, reflected light from the document becomes out of focus only in one direction, so the running image is formed on the CCD line sensor 6 and sent to the image processing circuit 200 of a printer 2. Then, image density information is read out of the 1st buffer memory 201 and the 2nd buffer memory 202 successively in synchronism and then an OR circuit 208 composes one image of sharp Y (yellow) image information converted into binary information and running Y image information.
