PURPOSE:To upgrade the utilization factor of an active material by using a porous substrate having pores of specified sizes, and filling the pores with the mixture of active material powder comprising nickel hydroxide powder as the principal component and at least a kind of powder of CoO, alpha-Co(OH)2, or beta-Co(OH)2. CONSTITUTION:Pore sizes of a porous substrate are 10 to 100mum; the pores are filled with active material powder comprising nickel hydroxide powder as the principal component and at least a kind of powder of CoO, alpha-Co(OH)2, or beta-Co(OH)2 of 5 to 30 wt%. An aqueous solution comprising water and carboxymethylcellulose etc is added to active materal powder obtained by mixing nickel hydroxide and CoO powder having the mean particle size of 5mum to prepare slurry. The slurry is filled into a receptacle of an expanded metal, and dried, then the expanded metal filled with active material is pressed with rollers to adjust the thickness, and to obtain a nickel electrode. If the pore size of the substrate is less than 10mum, filling up of the active material is difficult and the product cannot be used as an electrode. |
