PURPOSE:To obtain a curing agent soluble in an aliphatic solvent, useful for paints, etc., and capable of giving a coating film excellent in flexibility, by performing an addition reaction of a specified half-ester with a diisocyanate. CONSTITUTION:An addition reaction is performed between a half-ester compound (C) obtained by reacting an epoxide (A) selected from a polyepoxide such as neopentyl glycol diglycidyl ether and an OH group-containing monoepoxide such as a glycidol with a 6-20C aliphatic acid (B) (e.g., caproic acid, isodecanoic acid or caproleic acid) at a b to a molar ratio 0.95-1/1 (wherein a is the number of moles of the epoxy groups of component A and b is the number of moles of component B reacted) and a diisocyanate (D) such as 2,4- tolylene diisocyanate or hexamethylene diisocyanate at a d to (a+c) molar ratio of 0.95-1/1 (wherein c is the number of the OH groups of component A and d is the number of moles of component D reacted) to obtain a curing agent containing a polyisocyanate compound containing 20-60wt% alkyl groups of component B.
