PURPOSE:To improve strength and toughness with obviating the necessity of expensive elements, by providing, as a stainless steel for a substrate for blade for precision cut working, a composition in which Si content is increased and the total content of C and N is regulated. CONSTITUTION:As a material for a substrate for a diamond-electrodeposited blade for use in precision cut working of semiconductor materials such as Si single crystals, Ga-As compounds, etc., ferrite, quarts, ceramics, etc., an austenitic stainless steel having a composition which contains <0.10%C, 1.0-3.0% Si, <0.5% Mn, 4-8% Ni, 12-18% Cr, 0.5-3.5% Cu, and <0.004% N and in which total content of C and N is regulated to <=0.10% is used. This stainless steel is superior to conventional work hardening-type austenitic stainless steels and precipitation hardening-type stainless steels in strength, ductility and toughness. |
