PURPOSE:To enable favorable printing to be performed even on a rough paper, by providing a surface layer part of a ribbon base with a multiplicity of holes having a diameter smaller than that of dots to be printed, and supporting in the holes a heat-fusible ink having a relatively poor affinity for inside walls of the holes. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon base 3 consisting of a film of polyethylene terephthalate or the like has an intermediate part 3a treated to be hydrophilic. An ink support member 4 consists of a film of cellophane or the like which is provided with a multiplicity of holes 4a having a diameter smaller than that of dots to be printed and in which inside walls of the holes are treated with a surfactant or the like to be hydrophilic. When the bask side of the ribbon case 3 is heated by a thermal head, an ink 5 provided in the holes 4a of the ink support member 4 is heated, and the temperature of the ink is rapidly raised. The ink 5 starts to be separated from the ribbon base 3 and the ink support member 5, is deformed into a spherical shape under the surface tension thereof, with each hole 4a as a unit, and comes into contact with a recessed part of the surface of a rough paper 6. The ink 5 making contact with the recessed part of the rough paper 6 spreads on the surface of the paper under capillary, and is fixed as the temperature thereof is lowered.
