<p>PURPOSE:To aim at miniaturization in a detector as a whole, by operating such force as being pressed in the axial direction of a rack shaft, on a pinion shaft at a time when large steering torque is produced there, while having frictional force produced between a ring and a first bearing by dint of this force, and rotating this ring in drag together with the pinion shaft. CONSTITUTION:During handle operation, if large steering torque is produced there, such force that tries to move a pinon shaft 12 to a rack shaft 20 in an axial direction of this rack shaft 20 acts on the pinion shaft 12. In consequence, a clearance between a ring 23 in a direction where the pinion shaft 12 is pressed and an outer race 22b of a first bearing 22 is brought to nothing, whereby the ring 23 is pressed to a gear housing 10, and the ring 23 is rotated in drag together with the pinion shaft. With this drag rotation, a spool 33 is moved in an orthogonal direction with the pinion shaft 12, and movement of a spool is detected by a displacement detecting sensor whereby the steering torque is detected. Thus, with the ring 23 rotated, an interspace where the ring 23 moves is reducible so that miniaturization in the whole detector is promoted.</p> |
