PURPOSE:To assure sufficient luggage storing space by providing a rear seat with separate right and left seat backs and, only when one of the seat backs is operated to be inclined forwardly, permitting release of a locking mechanism for a reclining mechanism of the other seat back. CONSTITUTION:When a right seat back 4a is kept in its standing position, a lock plate 14 provided at the rear lower end of the right seat back 4a is engaged with a reclining stopper 16, so that a knuckle lever 18 connected to the stopper 16 through a locking lever 19 cannot be pivoted upwardly, preventing rearward inclination of a left seat back 4b. On the contrary, when a lock release knob 12 is pulled up to release engagement of a lock member 11 with a lock pin 10 and thereby to forwardly incline the right seat back 4a, the lock plate 4 moves away forwardly, releasing engagement with the stopper 16. This permits operation of a reclining mechanism 13 to rearwardly incline the left seat back 4b.
