[Also in Group XVII] A web WW intended to be out to form wrappers each with a tear strip attached, has a strip S cut longitudinally by a knife 2 from one edge as it is being fed round a roller 3, the strip being then deflected by eyes 9, 10 and a pulley 11 and superposed on the main portion as the latter passes over a roller 5 and secured thereto. The strip is preferably coloured, wholly or in patches, and may be merely tacked lightly to the main portion as by the printing ink used, acting as adhesive, this being applied by a roller 12 to the strip as shown, or to the main portion, and partially dried by a heater 15 prior to attachment of the two portions. The roller 12 dips into a bath 13, is continuously rotated by a separate motor 16 to prevent drying of the ink, and has a spring pressed doctor-blade 14 reciprocated laterally by a cam 20. |
