PURPOSE:To form and edit a text with high efficiency by changing over between a manual search replace and a global search replace. CONSTITUTION:There are provided a memory means 100 for developing text information, a retrieving means 110 for retrieving a character sequence designated from the developed text information, a replacement means 120 for replacing the retrieved character sequence by other character sequence, the first replacement control means 130 for performing the replacement all the retrieved character sequences, the second replacement control means 140 for performing the replacement of the character sequence only to the designated character sequence of the retrieved character sequences and a means 150 for selecting either one of the first and the second replacement control means and changing over. Thus, in the processes of the formation of the text and the editing, the embodiments of the retrieval and the replacement can be easily and rapidly changed over.
