PURPOSE:To concentrate alcohol with merits such as recources saving, energy saving, etc., and free from problems such as denaturation by heat, etc., by separating water from a mixed solution of water and alcohol efficiently by the use of a specific separating membrane having a simple structure. CONSTITUTION:A composite membrane wherein a layer of a high polymer ion salt is laid between two ultrafilters is used as a separating membrane, a mixed solution of water and alcohol is passed through the separating membrane, water is selectively permeated and separated to concentrate the alcohol. The separating operation, for example, is carried out by bringing a target solution to be separated into contact with one side of the separating membrane by osmotic vaporization method and sucking the other side in vacuum. A regenerated cellulose membrane such as cuprophane membrane, etc., acetylcellulose membrane, etc., is used as the ultrafilters and poly (ammonium allyl chloride), etc., is used as the high polymer ion salt. 1.0-100mg high polymer ion salt based on area (1.0cm<2>) of the ultrafilters is inserted into the separating membrane.
