摘要

PURPOSE:To form ruggedness on the surface of the protective layer of a landing zone by providing a ruggedness forming layer between a base and magnetic layer of said zone and forming said layer so as to have the surface roughness larger than the surface roughness of the main surface of the base. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium 10 is laminated with the magnetic layer 13 and the protective layer 14 on the base 11 consisting of glass or ceramics and the ruggedness forming layer 12 consisting of a thin Al film or the like is provided on the landing zone 10b of the base 11. The layer 12 is formed to have the surface roughness larger than the surface roughness of the main surface of the base 11 and therefore, the layer 14 of the zone 10b has the desired surface roughness. On the other hand, the surface roughness of the layer 14 of a read-write zone 10a is maintained small. The suction of a magnetic head to the zone 10b is obviated and the start thereof is smoothed by the above-mentioned constitution.
