PURPOSE:To exactly execute the maintenance and repair of an engine by providing a particle detecting element for measuring abrased particles which has been mixed in oil, and a magnet base for adsorbing the abrased particles, on a detecting passage through which lubricating oil flows, and flushing the abrased particles by a washing liquid at every prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:An engine 1 is driven, and oil of an oil pan 1c is supplied to each driving part of an engine body 1a, and each part is lubricated. This oil is absorbed by an oil pump 4, cooled through a lubricating oil passage 2 and brought to a reflux to the oil pan 1c. Subsequently, when the device enters into a measuring operation by a signal of a control unit 28, changeover valves 5, 15 are switched to a measuring passage 7, and oil passes through the passage 7, and a detecting passage 19 of a ferrography detecting device 18 and brought to a reflux to the oil pan 1c through a changeover valve 13. In this case, by a magnetic field from a magnet 30 of the detecting device 18, abrased particles in oil are fixed into the detecting passage 19. The abrased particles are brought to flushing by a washing liquid 8 from a tank by compressed air from a blow 11.
