PURPOSE:To contrive an automatic line-feeding operation, by a method wherein a calculated value of an arbitrary printing area length is divided by the designated number of lines and a space between lines is set on the basis of the resulting quotient in a division part. CONSTITUTION:By a printing area designating means 8, desired printing areas x1, x2 are designated onto a printing paper P. On the basis of the resulting designation, the printing area length C therefor is calculated in a printing area length calculating part 9, while the desired number of lines is designated in an input key for the number of lines 20 serving as an input means for the number of lines. In a division part 22, the calculated value of printing area length resulting from the printing area length calculating part 19 is divided by the designated number of lines according to the input key for the number of lines 20. On the basis of the resulting quotient in the division, a space between lines is set; on the basis of the set value of space between lines, a line- feeding operation is conducted. Therefore, the space between lines, i.e. a line feed pitch, can be automatically set appropriate to the printing area. In this manner, respective lines to be printed can be printed perfectly within the printing area.
