PURPOSE:To shorten ON-and-OFF time on a cathode part, by arranging a metallic film, which composes the cathode part, on an insulating substrate, with an insulating layer inserted, and besides making composition, in which an insulating layer part facing to filament parts in the metallic film is removed. CONSTITUTION:A lower insulating layer 2 is formed on an insulating substrate 1, and thereon followed by filament parts 4 and cathode-conductor parts 5, which are made of metallic films, as the cathode parts. Then, an upper insulating layer 6 having openings 7 is provided to form gaps 8 above and below the filament part 4. Besides, the filament part 4 is covered with thermionic emission substance 9, to compose a fluorescent character display tube of dot- matrix display and image displaye types. While diode structure, in which grids are excluded, is formed to obtain thin shaping and lightness, rapid heating and radiation are enabled to be performed with the thermion-emission part having aerial structure. Therefore, ON-and-OFF time on the cathode can be shortened to obtain clear display.
