This guillotine cutter is of the type comprising a frame 2, a fixed horizontal table 4 whose rear edge is adjacent to a fixed blade 6 or to a lower horizontal cross-member 5 of the frame 2 supporting it and which is intended to support the metal sheet 15 to be cut, a slide 7 which can move vertically above the table 4 and supporting a movable blade 8 so that its trajectory skims the rear face of the fixed blade 6, a sheet-metal clamp whose role is to hold the metal sheet 15 firmly applied against the table 4 and a finger guard whose role is to close access to the gap separating the two fixed 6 and movable 8 blades as soon as the descending travel of the slide 7 begins. This sheet-metal clamp and this finger guard consist of one and the same member, itself consisting of a fixed screen 13 whose lower edge 13c normally applied against the table 4 under a pressure generated by an elastic deformation, is harnessed to the slide 7 by means allowing it to be raised above the table 4 following an increase in the aforementioned elastic deformation for the purpose of passing the metal sheet 15 to be cut, but allowing it to return into pressurised contact against the table 4, as soon as the descending travel of the slide 7 begins. <IMAGE>
