A pivoting door 16, closing a discharge opening 8, totally frees, in an extreme position, access by the crushed materials to the first row of cells, while, by pivoting towards the inside of the crushing chamber 1, it allows the progressive sealing of the apparent cross section of the first row of cells of the grid 11 up to the value b of the other rows of cells. The invention applies to hammer mills for scrap iron and makes it possible to modulate the calibration (sizing) of the crushed products which are ejected. <IMAGE>
