PURPOSE:To aim at shortening the working time in a device in which a flared resilient membrane attached to a shaft is fitted in a component coupled to the above-mentioned shaft, by providing a centering pawl section and a fitting grip section to automatically fit the membrane in the component. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder 100 is driven to contact a boot 17 by means of a centering pawl section 81. Thereby, the center of the boot 17 coincides with the center of a shaft 1. Further, an auxiliary gripping section 82a grips the boot 17 so that the boot 17 clamped at the outer periphery. Then, a cylinder 94 is driven to rotate the centering pawl section 81 which is therefore separated from the outside of a housing 16. Then, a cylinder 97 is driven to fit the large diameter side opening end part 17a of the boot 17 on the outer periphery of the casing 16 at a joint 3, and simultaneously, the small diameter side opening end part 17b of the boot 17 is moved in the axial direction to be fitted in a boot fitting groove. With this method, the fitting of the boot on the outer periphery of the casing may be automated.
