PURPOSE:To measure the degree of disturbance of autonomic nervous function in depressed condition, by gauging the acidity of saliva of a depressed patient with a pH meter. CONSTITUTION:Saliva is collected from a depressed patient twice before and after the oral cleaning thereof and the collected saliva is put into a plastic cup. A liquid junction of an electrode of the pH meter is brought into contact with the saliva to measure the acidity of the saliva. This enables simple measurement of the degree of disturbance of autonomic nervous function in depressed condition.
