The step by step onward switching of a stepping motor by one operating rotation step (a) is carried out with two successive rotor rotation steps (m1, m2) from the rest rotation step position (s0) via a first rotation step position (s1) into a second rotation step position (s2) of the rotor of the stepping motor. In order that the rotation movement sequence (21) for the operating rotation step runs into the second rotation step position (s2) in a manner which is as flat as possible, the rotation movement sequence (21) is accelerated for a specifically determined time interval (Tb) by an acceleration step (22) which starts in the region of the first rotation step position (s1). In consequence, even in the event of relatively large tolerances of the inertia masses (flywheel masses) which are coupled to the drive shaft of the stepping motor, no significant overshoots occur when the stepping motor is in the latched state (17). <IMAGE>
