The different volume capacity of the wheel cylinders in a multi-circuit steering brake system is compensated in that the difference in pressure brought about by the different volumes in the primary spaces or secondary spaces of the tandem main cylinders is compensated by reducing the pressure chamber, supplied with low pressure, of a control valve which is hydraulically connected to two complementary pressure spaces of the main cylinders, and at the same time, a pressure compensation takes place in the two other pressure chambers of the main cylinders by means of the floating piston.
